A foodie’s guide to Shahpurjat Cafes

SHAHPURJAT, every time anyone uttered that name we used to get transported to our imagination, a dreary picture of a few scattered stores located along the muddy path in a desolate “gaaon” of Delhi. But little did we know, this treasure trove had a surprise in store for us. Hidden beneath all that patchwork cover-up was the world we never imagined.

Delhi never ceases to surprise us with its precious gems-strewn across the capital in the form of small clusters for eating and shopping and everything fun we could ever imagine, Delhi has it all! Among these hidden gems, Shahpurjat remains hidden, just like a diamond buried in the depths of coal, shining bright, waiting to be discovered. Conveniently located, next to the Siri Fort Auditorium, this place is a hub for designers and enterprises with a potential of taking the city by storm with everything that it has to offer. Brimming with a raw artistic vibe and the life size, some very interesting choice of graffiti is the first thing that you’d notice about this place. Winding, maze-like allies of beautifully decorated stores and cafes with lip smacking food options, is a path leading us to our one true love. This multi-faceted locale is now home to a Bihari restaurant, a French clothing & decor store, and a café run by a Greek designer, amongst other eclectic finds.

Here’s a list of the places we loved at Shahpur Jat, and your guide to exploring it.

The PotBelly Rooftop Café

Located on the 4th floor, this cute little Bihari cafe is worth the climb. The mouth watering Bihari cuisine and a beautiful view of the sunset is what made us fall in love with this place. We recommend the phish phingers, pakoras, and masala chai. Don’t miss out on this cute little Bihar.

Mykonos

Hidden in the bustling streets of Shapurjat, there lies a little Greece. The blue and white interiors with a stream of flags send you on a trip to Mykonos in Greece. It is the perfect place to grab a book and loose  yourself into it as the world around you goes by. Munch on the delicious greek platter and a greek coffee to go with it.

MyKonos

Mumbai Matinee

Travel back to the retro age with the new kid on the block. Inspired by the legendry retro era, this cafe is a must visit for the lovers of old classics and everything Bollywood. Try the keema kulcha and the famous vada pav with cutting chai.

The Wishing Chair/ Mad teapot

Situated inside The Wishing Chair, it’s the perfect place for a quick snack including sandwiches, coffee, and cupcakes. We also like their range of teas {try the blackberry tea}; they organize ‘high tea’ soirees, which we’re excited to check out.

Café RED

Apparently, their menu is inspired by suppers and comfort food; one can choose from pizzas, burgers, sandwiches and more. A good place to spend a quiet afternoon, reading and eating. We’ll drop by this joint when we visit next.

Old Town Café

All sweet and sugary cravings are satiated at Old Town. They have plenty of cupcakes and muffins to choose from, and different types of tea as well.
